Mimi Hagiwara - Japanese Female Wrestling
Well on this blog, Natsu Sumire, Michiko Omukai, Devil Masami and other Japanese female wrestlers are popular, but none of them are as popular as Mimi Hagiwara.
She started out as a model and an actress before she became a wrestler.
Mimi was trained by Jackie Sato and went on to become one of the most popular Japanese women wrestlers ever.
Mimi was remarkable in she would take a beating in a match like a true Jobber, but then come back to win even after it looked like she had taken all she could.
During her career she was the All Pacific Champion twice and held the WWWA Tag Team Championship with Yukari Omori.

OZ Academy 263 - Six Woman Tag Team Match
OZ Academy 263 (Country of OZ 2012) has been posted online at YouTube and it's great.
My favorite match on it is a match that sounds like any Joshi fan's dream.
Mio Shirai, Yumi Ohka and Mayumi Ozaki taking on Tomoka Nakagawa, Tsubasa Kuragaki and Manami Toyota.
The sad thing is that this wasn't the main event match so they really didn't go all out.
Just looking at the line up though, you would expect this to be the main event anywhere.

Hikaru Shida - Japanese Wrestling
Japanese female wrestler Hikaru Shida is not only attractive, but she's skilled.
Usually when you hear "actress" in a wrestler's resume you roll your eyes and move on.
But this young lady is a former actress and has held the Ice Ribbon ICE×60 Championship, the International Ribbon Tag Team Championship four times, won the Double Crown Tag Championship Tournament, held the Oz Academy Tag Team Championship (with Aja Kong), held the Pro Wrestling Wave Tag Team Championship, the Reina X World Tag Team Championship and won the Reina World Tag Team Championship 1Day Tournament.
So yeah, she is more than a pretty face.
Besides all that, she is also Ice Ribbon's co-head trainer and has trained over twenty female wrestlers.
She is also a commentator and sometimes referee of the promotion's 19 O'Clock Girls ProWrestling project.
AND she regular appearances for Oz Academy and Pro Wrestling Wave!
Hikaru was trained by Emi Sakura and made her pro wrestling debut on July 20, 2008.
One of Hikaru's fellow trainees was another actress/model turned champion female wrestler, Miyako Matsumoto.

Dark Angel in Japanese Women Wrestling?
Yes I know this is my Japanese women wrestling blog, but one lady that is making quite a mark in Joshi at the moment is Mexican luchadora Dark Angel.
Okay...technically she's Canadian female wrestler turned Mexican luchadora Sarah Stock....and you may know her better as Sarita from TNA.
If I had to pick a female wrestler to be the "Ultimate"...Sarah would be on my short list.
She's been wrestling for 11 years, she's held titles in Canada, the US, Mexico and now Japan.
She's got the moves, the skills, she's built like a fitness model and besides wrestling, she's trained in Muay Thai.
Do you think maybe she was under-utilized in TNA?
On April 29th, Sarah won the Wonder of Stardom Championship at the Ryōgoku Cinderella event in Tokyo.
She defeated Act Yasukawa via decision in a match to win the vacant title.
Sarah has gone on to hold that title for 107+ days.
And so you dont think I have abandoned Japanese female wrestling, here is Dark Angel with Io Shirai and Iroha Takumi.

Mio Shirai - Female Japanese Wrestlers
I know that when I can't think of anything else to talk about, I usually go to Kana, but today I thought I'd mention one of my other favorite Joshi wrestlers, Mio Shirai.
It's almost like mentioning Kana.
Yeah I know I just posted about Mio and her sister Io when they were the Sexy Purple Thunder Sisters a while back, but Mio has been doing quite a bit in Japan solo.
Mio and Kana defeated Misaki Ohata and Tsukasa Fujimoto on April 21st, 2013 and won the Wave Tag Team Championship, which is the first title Triple Tails.S has had.
Oh yeah, Triple Tails.S is the Mio/Kana tag-team that used to be just called Triple Tails when Io was a member.
Occasionally Mio and Kana have to face each other like they did here at the Regina di Wave Championship tournament.
You can check out Mio's Facebook page here:

Ayumi Kurihara To Retire
I mentioned Ayumi Kurihara several months ago in a post about Joshi wrestlers here in the US.
Since then (on Match 28th, 2013) she announced that due to all the injuries she has suffered during her career, she will be retiring from professional wrestling on August 4th.
It's sad but Ayumi has had a great career since she first debuted in 2005.
She has held world championship titles in promotions like Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), Dramatic Dream Team, NEO Japan Ladies Pro Wrestling, Oz Academy, Pro Wrestling Wave, Shimmer Women Athletes and Xtreme Latin American Wrestling.
